For fosters, adoptees, families, and professionals who support us.

We talk a lot about exploring your adoption story or taking time to unpack parts of your foster or adoptee journey (or you're supporting someone who's navigating that)...

...but how do you actually do that?

I made this resource to help you with that process.

It's a curated list of statements and questions meant to help you think deeper about your adoption journey, and about adoption in general.

The guide can be used as a list of prompts for journaling, discussion, self study, dialogue with one or among a group of fosters/adoptees, sharing with family members or to help stir deeper conversation in your work with a mental health professional.

Companion Questions

Here are six questions you can ask yourself (or the person you're working with) as you go through the discussion guide:

  1. What do you think the author was trying to say through that sentence/paragraph?
  2. How does that statement apply to your story/family, or not?
  3. What would you add or adjust to make it more specific to what you’re navigating this season?
  4. Where might an adoptee agree or disagree with that thought/idea?
  5. Who do you wish knew this about you and this part of your story?
  6. Where have you felt seen and validated when it comes to this layer of the adoptee experience?
