Hi, I'm Cam!
I wasn't always interested in adoption. Not even my own.
I was born in Korea and after being separated from my family at the age of three, it took me decades to begin exploring and healing through those layers of my story.
Children and families who've experienced any form of family separation, foster care, reunification, and adoption deserve support much sooner in their journey.
I'm here to address that gap together with you.
With practical frameworks, language, and strategies that empower our communities toward the individual and collective resources we need together.
Good, important, lasting outcomes can start today when we have the right tools and understanding in place!
Access Adoption Literacy NewsletterMy Origin Story
Adoption Literacy as a practical counseling framework helps address a critical need: families and communities want to support children and families who've experienced the child welfare system but often lack the training and shared language to do so effectively.
Having experienced life-changing encounters with hope and healing myself, I'm thrilled to offer adoption-literate counseling services so that more individuals and families, wherever they are in the world, can experience those encounters, too.

Our Journey
On our way to the beach a teen adoptee at summer camp asked me, "Hey Cam, have you ever felt angry that your birth mom gave you away?"
He wasn't looking for perfect answers. He was just wondering if there was anyone else on that trail with him. And if there were any other words beyond "grateful" or "angry" that could begin to capture the complexity of what he was going through that season.
Adoption Literacy is about giving helpful words and resources to the generations of families impacted by separation so that instead of staying buried, the power of their stories, strengths, and possibilities would be brought back to life.
Adoption Literacy is a community song. A shared language, in the key of hope. A lot of people have to be in on it. Are you willing to join us?

Where You've Met Cam
As an author, clinician in private practice, keynote speaker, and professional development trainer, my work has been featured by TEDx Minneapolis, CBS Minnesota, National Council for Adoption, Christianity Today, HBO, University of Minnesota School of Social Work, and Center for Adoption Support and Education.
My services are intentionally crafted and curated so that for the first or hundredth time (both can be therapeutic!), you’d sit back or rise up in the relief of knowing you’re not alone. And have tools you can immediately put into practice Monday morning.
Access Adoption Literacy NewsletterHow does the Adoption Literacy framework apply to you?
Want to understand the framework behind my approach? Adoption Literacy (AL) is my peer-reviewed framework for understanding and responding to the short- and long-term needs of people who've experienced changes in permanency through family separation, foster care, kinship placements, reunification, and adoption. AL is designed to help professionals, adoptees, and families move beyond the confusion of traditional "grateful adoptee" narratives to clarity, empowerment, and adoptee-informed care coordination.
